The K-8 St. Matthew School in Campbellsport, Wisconsin prides itself on its stellar education but, like many private and rural schools, finds it difficult to stay current with technology. With their very limited budget, they replaced student computers but deferred replacing the 10-year-old computers used by teachers and administrative staff.
Longtime volunteer Terry Lemke of Lemke Consulting thought the school was the perfect candidate for the APC by Schneider Electric Makeover Contest. APC by Schneider Electric agreed, choosing the school for a desperately needed $10,000 makeover.
More time to nurture students with modern equipment
With new student computers already funded, the St. Matthew School turned to updating the faculty and staff computers, enabling teachers to spend less time nursing computers and more time nurturing students.
The school also chose several LCD monitors and a projector to enhance the student learning experience and renewed their security and threat protection service.
Finally, a cloud-enabled APC Smart-UPS with SmartConnect Battery Backup now protects the school’s critical server data, giving the school added peace of mind and allowing school volunteers to easily and remotely manage it.
Extra credit: Cost-effective server protection
As a bonus, APC by Schneider Electric donated a new wall-mount server rack to replace their home-built wooden rack—an excellent option for schools that do not have a dedicated server room or closet and minimal or no IT staff.
With the $10,000 grant, the school is now free to raise funds for new programs such as STEM or textbooks.
